AI Search Optimisation in Dubai

Direct answer

AI search optimisation is the practice of structuring a website so that answer engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot — retrieve it and name it as a source. It overlaps with SEO but rewards different things: short self-contained answers, unambiguous entity data, clean server-rendered HTML and schema markup. Ryden Studio does this work for businesses trading in Dubai and the wider UAE.

What is answer engine optimisation?

Answer engine optimisation, generative engine optimisation and LLM SEO are three names for substantially the same discipline. The naming is unsettled — AEO and GEO get used interchangeably in job titles and conference tracks, and anyone insisting on a hard distinction between them is usually selling a framework. We say AEO because it names the target: the engine that answers, rather than the engine that lists.

The mechanic is worth understanding, because it explains everything else on this page. An answer engine does not rank your site. It retrieves passages from a pool of candidate documents, synthesises them into a response, and attributes some of what it used. You are competing to be retrieved and attributed, not to hold a position in a list.

That difference has practical consequences. A page can rank first in Google and never be quoted, because its answer sits in paragraph nine wrapped in context that does not survive being lifted out. A thinner page that opens with two clean sentences gets used instead. We went through that pattern in more detail in how UAE businesses get cited by ChatGPT.

How is AI search different from Google SEO?

The underlying work overlaps more than the marketing suggests. The targets differ in ways that change how a page gets built.

DimensionGoogle SEOAI search (AEO)
What you compete forA position in a ranked list of links.A sentence inside a synthesised answer.
Unit of contentThe page.The passage.
Structure rewardedDepth, internal linking, topical coverage.Short self-contained answers and explicit entities.
JavaScriptRendered, with a delay.Mostly not executed. Crawlers read the raw HTML.

Neither replaces the other, which is why most of our clients scope Google SEO in Dubai and this work together rather than choosing between them.

Why does this matter for a Dubai business?

Dubai’s buyer suits assistants unusually well. The population is largely expatriate and turns over quickly, which means a constant supply of people who do not know the market, have no local word-of-mouth to draw on, and are asking a machine “who is the best dentist in Dubai Marina” rather than working down a results page. Research happens in English and in Arabic, often inside the same household.

The categories where this bites hardest are the expensive ones: clinics, real estate, legal, auto services and hospitality. These are considered purchases where the buyer wants a shortlist and a reason, which is exactly the shape of thing an assistant produces. Being one of three names in that answer is worth more than position four on a page nobody scrolls.

There is also a technical problem specific to how a lot of UAE sites are built. Retrieval crawlers largely do not execute JavaScript. A client-rendered site can rank perfectly well in Google, which does render, while returning an empty shell to GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. The business is visible in one place and absent from the other, and nothing in a rankings report will tell you.

If you trade from more than one address this compounds with local SEO: an assistant asked for a branch near Dubai Marina has to resolve your business, your branches and your service area from whatever it can retrieve about you.

Evidence

Google users who saw an AI summary clicked a traditional search result on 8% of visits. Those who did not see one clicked on 15% — nearly twice as often.

What we actually do

  • Retrieval audit

We test how your site is currently retrieved and whether it is cited, across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews, on a fixed set of queries that matter to your business.

  • Entity definition

One consistent description of what your business is, applied across your site, your Google Business Profile and third-party listings, so models resolve you to a single entity.

  • Answer-ready structure

Direct answers, question-form headings and self-contained sections, so a passage still makes sense when it is lifted out of the page.

  • Schema implementation

Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Person, FAQPage and Article, implemented and validated, not recommended in a document.

  • Crawlability for AI agents

Server-rendered HTML, explicit robots.txt permissions for retrieval crawlers, and an llms.txt file.

  • Citation monitoring

A fixed query set re-tested monthly, so you can see whether you are being named and by which engine.

How do you measure AI search optimisation?

Four things are worth tracking, and one thing is worth admitting.

Citation frequency
How often a fixed set of queries returns your business as a named source.
Share of voice
How often you appear against a named list of competitors on those same queries.
Referral traffic
Sessions arriving from ChatGPT, Perplexity and other assistants, which most analytics setups will separate out once they are configured to.
Branded search lift
Whether more people are searching your name directly, which is often the first number to move.

Now the admission. Answer engines are non-deterministic. The same query, asked twice on the same day from the same country, can return different sources. A single check proves nothing in either direction — not when it flatters you, and not when it does not. Only a fixed query set, re-tested on a schedule, produces a trend worth acting on. Anyone showing you one screenshot of ChatGPT naming your business is showing you a coin flip that landed their way.

Who this is for

Good fit: businesses with real services, real locations and something true to say — where the honest description of what you do is already interesting.

Bad fit: anyone who wants volume content, anyone who wants one agency to also run their ads and social, and anyone who needs results next week. We turn that work down. Saying so up front saves us both a meeting.

Frequently asked questions

Is AEO just SEO with a new name?

Partly. The foundations are shared: a crawlable, fast, genuinely useful site helps in both. What differs is the target, because classic SEO competes for a position in a list while answer engine optimisation competes to be the passage a model quotes. In practice that changes how a page is structured far more than it changes what you write about.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and neither can anyone else. Answer engines are non-deterministic and their retrieval layers change without notice, so a guarantee of a specific mention is a guess dressed as a promise. What can be influenced is whether your site is retrievable, whether your entity is unambiguous, and whether your pages contain passages worth quoting. That is the work we do.

How long does it take to get cited?

Often faster than classic rankings — weeks rather than months for a page that is already indexed, because retrieval does not carry the same authority lag that ranking does. A brand new domain still waits. The honest answer is that it depends on how contested the query is and how much of your existing site has to be rebuilt first.

Do I need a new website for this?

Sometimes. The deciding factor is usually whether your content is server-rendered. If a retrieval crawler receives an empty shell and waits for JavaScript that it never runs, no amount of copywriting fixes it. If your site already sends real HTML, the work is structural and can be done on what you have.

Does this work for Arabic-language search?

We work in English. Arabic optimisation needs a native speaker to judge phrasing and intent, and we do not have that in-house, so we either scope it with a partner or leave it out and tell you plainly that we have left it out. Many buyers in this market research in English, but whether that holds for your category is worth checking rather than assuming.

What does it cost?

It depends on the size of the site and how much of it has to be rebuilt, so we quote after the audit rather than before. The audit itself is free and yours to keep whether or not you go ahead. We do not publish package prices because a single number would be wrong for most of the businesses that ask.
